Step #2. How to Market Your GovCon Business
Marketing to Win Contracts
So many government contractors that are new to the game want to just get registered and then start bidding immediately. Unfortunately, the incredibly important step of marketing your GovCon Business is often skipped. The longer you're in business, the more you realize the importance of relationships and your reputation. These are invaluable assets that take time to build, and so you should begin building them before you even start to bid on contracts.
Let me ask you this... Let's say, for example, you were having your house painted and you had the choice between two contractors to paint your house. One contractor you have never heard of and the other comes highly referred by a family member. Which are you going to choose? It goes without saying that you would choose the latter. Why should government contracting be any different? Except in this case, YOU'RE the contractor, and if you're not properly marketing, you're going to be the no-name contractor from the example.
Government contracting is a lot more complex than this simple example, but it illustrates my point. If you want to build your GovCon Business the right way, take it from me, and start marketing and then start bidding. Your future self with thank you!
In this course, I include the essential steps to begin marketing your business as soon as you have properly registered your business in the System for Award Management (SAM). The course will also prepare you to begin bidding by exposing you to the most widely used federal government bidding website and also walking you through reading sources sought market research examples.
See you inside!
Derek James "The GovKid"
Your Instructor
Derek James is an MBA Graduate that fell into the world of winning government contracts almost by mistake. At the age of 26, he began working for a small government contractor and started learning how to win contracts with the US Federal Government. In a very "sink or swim" environment, he barely escaped being fired in his first 3 months. Over the next few years, Derek James would go on to be very successful winning government contracts, securing over 32 Federal Contract actions worth over $15M with various US Government Agencies. Once he learned that his story is not-so-typical, Derek started helping Small Business owners to start winning contracts.
Today, Derek is passionate about teaching his strategy for winning contracts (the GovKid Method) to small business owners that want to learn how to sell to the Federal Government. Derek helps small businesses in many different capacities, depending on their needs and their ultimate goals for their business. Derek remains focused on consulting and creating resources that can help small businesses expedite their path to winning government contracts.
